About Us

Fish Bowl Farm offers high quality instruction and horse services on Vashon Island. Since the beginning in 2000, when we first offered boarding services to riders and trainers, we have aimed for an enjoyable environment for horses and riders. In 2006 we began offering riding lessons on school horses for riders without their own horse.  Our services now include:

  • riding lessons for new and experienced riders of all ages
  • horse/pony purchase consultation
  • full service boarding

Our team consists of owners and managers Emily & Alex Wigley.

Emily is our instructor and stable manager, and Alex is our facility manager.  Both bring outside interests and experiences to the equestrian pursuits.

Emily has experience in small and large business and as a hard working volunteer in private and public education.  She began riding while growing up in the San Francisco area and has never stopped learning since her first lessons way back when! A dressage and eventing rider, Emily is certified Level II in both Dressage and Stable Management by the American Riding Instructors Association.   Mom of two young adults, she understands and enjoys working with people of all ages.

Emily has consulted on purchases of first ponies and horses successfully, and enjoys the process of finding the right mount for each individual rider and/or family.  She often knows of horses available for sale or lease, and can also search near and far for your horse.

Emily and Alex both are approved by the US Eventing Association as course designers and builders for stadium jumping and cross country jumping through Training level.  Alex’s woodworking and heavy machinery use/backgrounds make cross country obstacle building a natural extension.

Alex is a jack of all trades and a master of most as a former designer/builder in the remodeling field.  He is also a former ski professional – he spent several years teaching skiers of all levels in basics, racing and moguls.  He is the Sailing School Director at Quartermaster Yacht Club in the summer, overseeing the instructors, boats and administration of the program.  Alex’s world class sailboat racing pursuits take him all over Puget Sound and beyond in his Tartan Ten 10 meter boats, Freedom X and Perfect X.

Both Emily and Alex continue to ride.  Emily enjoys her chestnut mares:  Hanoverian-thoroughbred mare Echo, and Echo’s daughter Jynx, by Swedish stallion Amorex.  Alex’s horse, Braeburn — aka Afterburner when he’s on a tear! – is a former level 8 and champion show jumper from New Zealand.
